WHO WE ARE
Mosaic Environmental Fund is a national collaborative fund and field catalyst uniquely designed to support the US environmental movement — inclusive of climate, conservation, and environmental health and justice — in building the power it needs to win not just for today, but for the long haul.
Our history
Mosaic was created in response to a collective recognition that, although the U.S. environmental movement has achieved historic victories, the pace and scale of the challenges we face demand even more of all of us. More than 100 NGO, philanthropy, and academic leaders from diverse organizations across the country participated in an 18-month design process that launched Mosaic in 2020 with seed funding from the Hewlett, Packard, Walton Family, and Pisces Foundations. Along with a growing number of partners, these leaders unanimously confirmed that stronger movement infrastructure is indispensable to achieving our collective goals.
Leadership Council
A participatory grantmaker, Mosaic is governed by a diverse Leadership Council of grassroots, nonprofit, and philanthropy leaders and supported by a small staff.
Angela Mahecha Adrar
Tishman Environment and Design Center, The New School
Angela Mahecha Adrar is the Program Director of the Environmental Justice Movement Fellowship. She has committed her life to advancing the role of the grassroots sector and provides agile leadership and structure to address and adapt to the changing and complex priorities of local communities while influencing national and international agendas.
Tonya Bonitatibus
Savannah Riverkeeper
Tonya Bonitatibus is the Riverkeeper and Executive Director of Savannah Riverkeeper, watching over the health and vibrancy of the Savannah River. She has served in that role for over 13 years, helping successfully guide the organization through threats to water quality, including the recent fight against the Palmetto Pipeline.
Rahwa Ghirmatzion
Just Solutions Collective
Rahwa Ghirmatzion (she/her) is a Senior Policy Fellow at the Just Solutions Collective and co-founder of EJ Agency. She works on holistic, place-based implementation strategies that promote equitable community development, climate justice, public health, affordable housing, and energy democracy. Rahwa currently serves on the New York State Climate Justice Working Group, a group created by New York’s 2019 climate law to identify disadvantaged communities on the frontlines of climate change that will be a focus for state climate investment.
Chris Hill
Conservation Lands Foundation
Chris Hill (she/her) is the Chief Executive Officer of the Conservation Lands Foundation, bringing over 15 years of experience in community organizing, environmental law and lobbying, and public policy advocacy. A former Chief Conservation Officer at the Sierra Club, Chris has built a distinguished career advancing conservation, outdoor equity, and just transition initiatives across various landscapes. She serves on the boards of Trout Unlimited and One Green Thing, and was featured in the award-winning film Where I Belong.
Dr. Katie Huffling
Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments
Dr. Katie Huffling is a Certified Nurse-Midwife and the Executive Director of the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments (ANHE), the only national nursing organization whose primary focus is on the intersection of health and the environment. With ANHE, Dr. Huffling works with nurses and nursing organizations to elevate environmental health issues amongst the nursing profession. Dr. Huffling is a passionate supporter of nurse-led advocacy in support of healthier environments for all.
Tom Kiernan
American Rivers
Tom Kiernan is President and CEO of American Rivers, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring every river is clean and healthy for people and wildlife. Previously, Tom led the American Wind Energy Association and the National Parks Conservation Association. Throughout his career, Tom has worked to broaden the movement for clean water and conservation, and has advanced innovative solutions that benefit people and nature.
Nina Lagpacan
Oceankind
Nina Lagpacan is a Program Officer with Oceankind, a philanthropic organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area dedicated to protecting marine ecosystems. She provides operational support and manages Oceankind’s investments that advance diversity, equity, inclusion and justice in marine conservation and environmental philanthropy. Prior to joining Oceankind, Nina worked with the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and as a park ranger in the Tetons and Rockies for the National Park Service.
Rashad Morris
Reparative Ventures / Impact Donor Strategies
Rashad Morris brings over two decades of experience in politics, policy development, advocacy, and nonprofit governance. As principal and founder of the advisory firm Reparative Ventures / Impact Donor Strategies, Rashad provides support to philanthropic foundations, individual major donors, nonprofits, and government agencies on organizational effectiveness, program design, strategy, and grantmaking. He is an experienced facilitator, thought partner, and grantmaker dedicated to addressing the challenges of social, racial, economic, and environmental injustice at their intersections.
Jacqueline Patterson
The Chisholm Legacy Project
Jacqueline Patterson is the Founder & Executive Director of The Chisholm Legacy Project. Since 2007, Patterson has served as coordinator & co-founder of Women of Color United. She has worked as a researcher, program manager, coordinator, advocate and activist working on gender justice, HIV&AIDS, racial justice, economic justice, and environmental and climate justice.
Kate Sinding Daly
Conservation Law Foundation
Kate Sinding Daly is an environmental lawyer and advocate, currently in the role of senior vice president for law and policy at the Conservation Law Foundation. Previously, Kate was the inaugural executive director of the NorthLight Foundation. Earlier roles include senior advisor to the president and senior attorney at the Natural Resources Defense Council, and partner in the specialty environmental law firm of Sive, Paget & Riesel.

Mily Treviño-Sauceda is the Executive Director & Co-Founder of Alianza Nacional de Campesinas, Inc., the first national farmworker women’s organization in the U. S. created by current and former farmworker women, along with women who hail from farmworker families.

As Strategic Partnerships Director Maya stewards Mosaic’s strategic partnerships with donors and philanthropists to amplify our collective impact to resource the capacity of our environmental movement grantee partners and the field as a whole.

Julian Foley (she/her) is a strategic communications and nonprofit leader with 20 years of experience helping organizations move hearts, minds, and money in service of environmental and economic justice. As Director of Communications and Strategic Initiatives Julian leads Mosaic’s strategic communications and related efforts aimed at catalyzing a more aligned and interconnected environmental movement.

Eva Hernandez (she/her) is a visionary nonprofit leader and movement strategist with over 20 years of experience serving the US environmental movement at organizations like Sierra Club, MoveOn, and Dogwood Alliance. As Executive Director, Eva leads Mosaic’s overarching work to boost the collective power of climate, conservation, and environmental health and justice movements in the United States to achieve durable, population-scale wins.
Leigh Hiura
Operations Manager
Leigh Hiura (she/her) is a masterful operations professional with over ten years of experience making nonprofits run smoothly. As Mosaic’s Operations Manager, Leigh supports and streamlines Mosaic’s IT systems and back-end processes to ensure our team can stay laser focused on strengthening environmental movement infrastructure.
Danielle Levoit
Program Officer
Danielle Levoit (she/her) is a philanthropic leader with seventeen years of experience advancing equity and impact in the environmental movement. As Program Officer at Mosaic, Danielle leads the development of grantmaking strategy and implementation and strengthens relationships with grantee partners to build a more connected and effective movement.
