Eva Hernandez, Executive Director
Eva Hernandez (she/her) is Executive Director of Mosaic Environmental Fund, investing in the movements and people that make change possible to protect our planet. A nationally recognized environmental and climate leader, she has led winning campaigns against the coal and oil industries and fought for public lands and endangered forests in some of the toughest political climates.
Eva became Mosaic’s first executive director in 2024, funding hundreds of efforts to protect and restore lands, waters, and ecosystems; mitigate climate change; and support resilient communities—all while building durable movement power to make progress stick.
Before joining Mosaic Eva spent 20 years working in the field, from the grassroots to the grasstops. She has led organizing efforts at MoveOn, Sierra Club, Dogwood Alliance, and Green Corps, protecting thousands of acres of public land, stopping the logging of old-growth forests, turning out young voters, and passing clean energy legislation. As a young organizer with the Sierra Club in Texas, Eva led work that successfully blocked nine coal power plants from being built in Texas, preventing as much as one billion metric tons of carbon dioxide from our planet over the next ten years.
She went on to help lead the national Sierra Club, the country’s largest and oldest environmental organization with over three million members. As Managing Director, Eva led a team with over 800 employees, 63 chapters, and an annual budget of $160 million. She spearheaded significant organizational transformation at Sierra Club, modernizing the 130-year-old institution to build a more rigorous, equitable, and impactful foundation across its systems, structures, culture, and results.
Eva holds a degree in Environmental Policy and is based in Austin, Texas, where she is raising her two sons. She coaches social justice leaders through The Management Center and serves on the boards of Friends of the Earth US and GoAustin/Vamos Austin.
