Mosaic’s 2026 grantmaking supports strong and nimble networks and coalitions that bridge across sectors, demographics, ideology, and geography to drive durable state-level progress.
The path to progress runs through states
We know that to make progress, we must build power. Recognizing the critical role of states as an arena for progress and a locus for cross-sector organizing, Mosaic’s 2026 grantmaking focuses on renewed support for collaborative infrastructure that supports state-level agendas and lays the foundation for larger-scale national change. This includes networks, tables, coalitions, and base building operations that are bridging across issues, sectors, geographies, and audiences to build a broad base of power and win on priority issues. We also invested in strategic linkages to local, regional, and national efforts and projects that build the skills and capacities of movement leaders and advocates.

SPOTLIGHT: MOVING MICHIGAN FORWARD
Moving Michigan Forward, a collaboration between Michigan Climate Action Network (MiCAN) and Michigan League of Conservation Voters, is building lasting community power to defend and implement Michigan’s 2023 Clean Energy & Jobs Act. Through grassroots and digital storytelling, the project positions real people and places as the drivers of progress in the state, connecting abstract environmental issues with the concerns of everyday Michiganders. MiCAN is also leveraging its growing statewide network to take on emerging threats like the proposed Line 5 oil pipeline and unchecked data center growth in the state.
Bigger tent, more power
Mosaic support helps groups bridge silos and differences to build a bigger tent for durable environmental progress. The chart shows the primary divides our 2026 grantees are bridging, but most projects address multiple divides.
SPOTLIGHT: BUILDING LABOR-CLIMATE ALLIANCES IN NEW YORK
In March, 2026 ALIGN NY held its first Common Ground Conference to build relationships and break down barriers between labor and environmental and climate justice groups — so they can work effectively together to make their communities more sustainable, resilient, and just. This relational work is essential to build power and make progress as ALIGN and other partners across the state continue their efforts through the NY Renews coalition (past grantee) to hold the state accountable to its climate goals and address issues that cut across sectors like data center development and sustainable buildings and infrastructure.

Mosaic’s investments strengthen groups’ collective capacity to advance a set of interconnected, field-identified priorities, including:
SPOTLIGHT: NEW MEXICO MINING WATCH
New Mexico Mining Watch is coordinating across member groups representing the diversity of New Mexico’s communities to build power and shift narratives around critical minerals mining in the state. The coalition worked together to develop a shared communications strategy and coordinating infrastructure, and will focus over the next year on reframing mining-related policy and regulatory conversations to center on community health, water access, corporate accountability, and communities’ right to participate in decision-making.
