OUR APPROACH
We focus on the biggest challenges hindering progress across the environmental movement as a whole, shifting it from fragmented and reactive to pluralistic, adaptive, and powerful.
Building movement power
Progress isn’t just about having the right solutions, it’s about having the power to achieve them. Our grantmaking focuses on four interconnected pillars that movement leaders, academics, and funders recognize as the essential infrastructure of successful movements, and we amplify the impact of our investments by facilitating increased connection and coordination among our grantee and funder communities through networking and convenings, shared learnings, and transparent data.
Systems and structures for developing and deploying compelling, culturally relevant narratives that shift hearts and minds and inspire action.
Connection and trust that enables people to work together across difference toward shared aims.
A deep bench of skilled, representative leaders.
Advocacy tools and trainings that help groups at all levels access data and mobilize constituents.
Catalyzing the full field
Mosaic is the only environment-focused collaborative fund in the US focused at the field-wide, intersectional level. We fund at the connection points that are often not reached through historic, siloed philanthropic support, shifting the underlying conditions for success. We:
- Support bridge building and collaboration across issue, sectoral, geographic, and demographic divides.
- Invest strategically at the ecosystem level of the full environmental field to achieve near term goals while building durable power for systems level change.
- Take a pluralistic approach to grow the set of actors working together under a big tent with a shared purpose and common vision.
- Maintain commitment to democratic processes essential to the success of all our endeavors.
- Enable adaptive innovation in a shifting landscape, ensuring strategies, tools, and collaborations remain effective in the face of uncertainty and change.
Mosaic has been recognized as a powerful field catalyst by The Bridgespan Group and has been featured in the Chronicle of Philanthropy, Volts, Inside Philanthropy, Forbes, and Fast Company
